Meccanismo d'informazioni

This installation is a reflection on how the informations we receive every day from the mass-media about different countries contribute to the creation of a fragmentary vision of a global society.

In the middle of the installation there is a world map where the today's politic borders are shown; on the side are three acrylic painted portraits. This juxtaposition establishes a relation between the people in the paintings and the countries in red color on the map. With this match the people are projected into the global scenario, yet confined in a specific place and time.
There are also video projections on the side offering a configuration of statistic data that appear with a regular rhythm: for instance there are datas giving infos about the GDP of the country, then a forecast of the same data for the next year; datas on demographic growth and decrease, percentages of illiteracy, economic situation and so forth.

The combining of datas with the portraits leads the viewer to an interpretation of the represented people, not just by their appearances and the painterly return, but in particular by the informations concerning economy, demography etc. Nowadays those datas mostly determine the general idea on different countries and the people who live there. Those are informations that stem from scientific analysis that deliberately reduce situations, events, people and places to numbers that are used to create a manageable global map, and those processes are oriented by economical and political reasons of a certain historic period.

The contemporary individual and his identity have become part of a scientific information-mechanisms.

Starting with this installation I would like to create a production that invites the viewer to reflect on the process of self-determination of the individual through the enormous flow of data and informations and the contradictions that these entail.
